Building Engines Weighs In at the IREM Building Operations Symposium: The Incredibly Expanding Job- The Changing Role of the Real Estate Manager

Scott Sidman, Senior Vice President at Building Engines Inc, global provider of comprehensive web-based and mobile property and tenant management solutions recently spoke at the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Building Operations Symposium conference, on March 20th in New York City. Sidman, and four other guest panel members, delivered insights on the rapidly changing role of the property manager and the resulting impact on building and asset management. The session, The Incredibly Expanding Job: Changing Demands & Skill Sets of Real Estate Managers, specifically addressed how technology has changed the nature of the property manager’s job description and range.

“As an operations management system provider, we are seeing an increased demand for meaningful and useful data that can help with cost reduction and keeping tenants happy. And it’s all about having operational insight and being able to make data-driven decisions. We’ve been in business for twelve years and I would say the first ten years we had been really pushing the technology out, and now we are seeing a dramatic shift in customers and prospects coming to us looking to use technology as a tool to better service tenants and gain insight into operational data.” -Scott Sidman

Also on the panel were industry veterans Cindy Clare- President of Kettler Management, Hector Pinero- SVP of Related Management, Linda Aronson- Managing Director of Jones Lang LaSalle, and Ingo Kraus- President-Elect of the Deleware Valley Chapter (3), IREM. The discussion also included valuable insight on the demands being placed on today’s property managers, the skills they now need to succeed, international differences, evolving trends and best practices, and the expectations of the next generation of property managers.
