David Osborn

Board Chair

David Osborn is the founder of Building Engines, Inc, and currently serves as Executive Chairman.

Mr. Osborn has over thirty years of experience founding and leading early-stage companies within the technology sector. He served as CEO of Building Engines from 2001 through 2017 growing it to over one-hundred employees with over two billion square feet under management. Before Building Engines, David founded iSense, Inc. where he developed “iWitness” – a remote Internet-based monitoring system for the second-home market. Prior to iSense, he was the CFO and COO at Milestone Systems, Inc., a venture-backed start-up, where he helped to design and develop “Click’n’Send” – a multi-carrier desktop express mailing and shipping system.  David has over three decades of legal experience in corporate structuring, finance, real estate, and environmental litigation. After law school, he served as law clerk to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and Maine Superior Courts and worked in a private environmental law practice in Boston. In addition to his work with Building Engines, David runs his own private investment fund, and sits on the boards of various commercial and charitable private organizations.  Mr. Osborn graduated with BA in English from the University of Vermont (1981) and holds his JD from Vermont Law School (1986). He is a former pilot, commercial swordfisherman and lobsterman and lives with his wife of 30 years in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
